Sister Circle

Nia Statement:

The purpose of our Sister Circle is to bring sisters together to share in discussion of subjects that effect us as sisters; to give us a medium through which to build relationships with our sisters; to celebrate our African womanhood and to network with like minded sisters in our quest for knowledge growth and development.

Sister Circle Principles

We come together in Peace and HEAL-many (not HARM-any)

We agree to respect the role of elders and each other

We may not always agree, but we agree to respectfully disagree.

We agree that what's said in the Sister Circle stays in the Sister Circle.

We will respect the need for confidentiality among the group.

Boundaries:  We understand that we may approach the sister circle with

different needs and expectations.  However, we in the Sister Circle can

only act within the context of being a support group.  We cannot and

do not offer psychological, marital, or emotional counseling.  We are how-

ever, a circle of sisters who will listen support, and offer words of

            encouragement where we may.

We understand that gossip destroys the spirit and we agree to disengage

from this destructive behavior which undermines our goals within the

Circle.  Instead, we seek elder guidance to resolve  internal issues when

            the need arises.

We agree that our role as Sisters inside and outside the Sister Circle

should be one of encouragement and empowerment. We agree that good

character  and moral conduct is essential to our empowerment. We agree

to disengage activities that willfully bring harm to our Sisters directly and

            indirectly.

We understand that we are coming from many different walks of life,

spiritual paths, philosophical outlooks and lifestyles.  We will respect

one another's differences, never attacking individuals, and never feeling

the need to be defensive.  We do encourage intellectual debate and

discussion of issues that we may feel passionate about.  In our respect we

anticipate that our sisters will strive for excellence and learn to practice Maat.

OUR FOCUS:   Each sister contributes topics of interest into the basket of ideas.  At the close of each Circle we will draw from the basket the topic for the following week unless we have not completed a topic.  Each topic will follow the guidelines of Nation building for African women.  An African woman must learn what it means to be a caretaker of our people and planet and preserver of our culture and race.
